Blowing coat in a German Shepherd means in the summer months you will see the winter undercoat with big clumps of furry hair start to come out, and in the winter months, you will see the summer coat with smaller hair shedding because the winter coat is coming back in.

My German Shepherds will start to blow their coats in the springtime and fall. Depending on how consistent Mother Nature is. The only other time that princess will start to blow her coat is when she is coming into heat. This happens around 45 days before she comes into heat.

The best way I’ve discovered with, my German Shepherds, how to reduce shedding so much is to keep them bathed and brushed regularly for getting the best results. I also use (Affiliate Link)  mink oil conditioner that helps keep my dog’s skin nice and gives them a healthy shiny coat.

 I like to bathe my puppies twice a month. When my puppy at 6 months of age, I go to once a month. If we do more than that we’re taking a chance of drying out a dog’s skin and we do not want that to happen because we want to keep the natural oils in our dogs’ skin flowing naturally. After all, it could dry their fur out and cause dandruff.

I’m sharing my experience. What does the professional groomer charge to groom a German Shepherd?  

This is a great question. I paid a professional groomer $125.00 to groom my German shepherd. He had a thick coat and he was imported from Czechoslovakia. He was an awesome dog but sometimes I didn’t have time to groom him, so I hired a professional to bathe and brush him out.

I will say it was a great experience. I learned a lot from the lady I hired. She did awesome work and I decided to let her groom him a few times a year, as a special treat. He was happy to go there he just loved getting brushed out and bathed. He was a great temperament German Shepherd dog. 

Can German shepherds be groomed?

Yes. Having your German Shepherd groomed can help with keeping their hair and skin healthy.  I have my German Shepherd groomed a few times a year. This will help keep the natural oils in the skin healthy.

Because I don’t have a German Shepherd puppy right now. I found an awesome professional groomer teaching a new German Shepherd owner how to groom her puppy. This is a great video. I even picked up a few golden nuggets myself. You can never stop learning.

In this video, you’ll learn how she is explaining how to use different brushes when she’s brushing out the puppy. and how often you will use each tool. Now keep in mind this is how professional groomers do it. But like anything else, every dog groomer has a way of grooming dogs and it could be different depending on each groomer.
